Fans and family are making plans once again to travel to Nashville and honor the memory of the late great Country Singer. Some will be traveling from as far away as Europe. Their time together will be spent sharing memories of past Concerts they attended and swapping stories about the love and admiration they shared for this Legendary Lady! Many of the fans have developed strong friendships over the last four years from attending these fan gatherings. The event itself will be held at the Nashville Night Life Dinner Theatre on May 02, 2020, of this year. Tickets are currently available to purchase until sold out.
The Gathering typically lasts about 3 to 4 hours and includes a catered meal, live music, and presentations on Tammy’s life by friends and family, the past events have featured contests, giveaways, and memorabilia available to purchase. This year guests will be treated to a special tribute performance by Georgette Jones, the daughter of George Jones and Tammy Wynette. Georgette has a beautiful voice and puts on a fantastic show honoring her Mother. If you have never heard Georgette sing I highly encourage you to check out her new CD, Skin available to download on Amazon music.
I have been lucky enough to attend this fan gathering since 2014 and must say that we have an incredible time. Although the event is only scheduled to last about 3 hours over a catered lunch many of the participants make plans to get together before and after the event turning it into a 3-day Nashville lovefest, meeting up for meals at many of the local hot spots, touring the many museums, Honky Tonks and the Grand Ole Opry!
One of our most memorable side trips was to Red Bay, Alabama where Tammy spent her teenage years growing up. They have a wonderful museum there where they have devoted the entire second floor to honor the life of Tammy Wynette. This museum truly has a wonderful collection of memorabilia, photographs, stage clothes, artifacts and personal possessions donated for display. Definitely worth the drive to visit and I’m happy to report that they have installed a wheelchair lift which now makes it much easier to access the second floor for anyone unable to climb the stairs.
While visiting the Red Bay area go ahead and travel down the Tammy Wynette highway past the old farmhouse where she grew up to the little community of Tremont, Mississippi where she attended High School. There you can tour the Tammy Wynette Legacy Park, which recently opened to honor the Legend. They have personal memorabilia on display including the old piano she learned to play music on. There is also a nice restaurant on the premises often with live entertainment!
If you are interested in learning more about Tammy Wynette, there are several books available on Amazon, including two written by her daughters. Here is the link for Tammy’s Autobiography, “Stand By Your Man“, written in 1979. “The Three of Us, growing up with Tammy and George” by Georgette Jones and “Tammy Wynette a Daughter Recalls“, by Jackie Daly. There are also several Facebook groups that are very active in keeping her memory alive by sharing her music and memories. I can highly recommend the following groups. Tammy Wynette First Lady of Country Music, Remembering Tammy: The Fan Site, and George Jones and Tammy Wynette, King and Queen of Country Music. You can also find the Facebook page for their daughter, Georgette Jones as well as the fan-run group Little G-E-O Fans! (Georgette Jones).
