I grew up listening to real Country Music and one of my favorite singers was Merle Haggard. I was listening to some old albums of his and got the idea to write this blog today off one of those titles.
Ramblin’ Fever by Merle Haggard
My hat don’t hang on the same nail too long
My ears can’t stand to hear the same old song
An’ I don’t leave the highway long enough to bog down in the mud
’cause I’ve got ramblin’ fever in my blood. I caught this ramblin’ fever long ago
When I first heard a lonesome whistle blow
If someone said I ever gave a damn, the damn sure told you wrong
I’ve had ramblin’ fever all along. Ramblin’ fever
The kind that can’t be measured by degrees
Ramblin’ fever
There ain’t no kind of cure for my disease. There’s times I’d like to bed down on a sofa
And let some pretty lady rub my back
And spend the early morning drinking coffee
And talkin’ about when I’ll be coming back ’cause I don’t let no no woman tie me down
And I’ll never get too old to get around
I want to die along the highway and rot away like some old high-line pole
Restless ramblin’ fever in my soul. Ramblin’ fever
The kind that can’t be measured by degrees
Ramblin’ fever
There ain’t no kind of cure for my disease.
I reckon that’s kinda the way a lot of folks are feeling with all of this corona shutdown stuff being enforced. Luckily we don’t live in the City. In fact, in our County, there have only been 4 confirmed cases, two of which have already recovered. Living in the Country can definitely have its advantages. First, we have learned to be more self-reliant. We can raise our own food and when we do need supplies we have learned to shop for 2 or 3 weeks at a time. This limits our exposure to other people who might have the virus. It also allows us more time to play.
That’s exactly what we decided to do on this beautiful sunny Texas afternoon. My husband backed out our Teryx 4 side by side, loaded me and the dogs into it, and off we went. We could ride for miles and miles around our area and never get off gravel or dirt roads. A perfect place to self-isolate!
It really is a great way to beat the doldrums, especially if you’ve got Ramblin Fever!
